Cost; $45 per person - vegetarian available - BYO; Beer and Wine $4 corkage Enquiries and Bookings: Kathryn.Sturrock@gmail Today - Anuradha Koirala who started - Maiti Nepal Charity- 20 years ago (1993), in her own home in Kathmandu, is a powerful woman in Nepal. She has been awarded more than 30 national and international awards for her work with woman and children who have been trafficked. However, 20 years ago when she started to work with woman and children who had either suffered domestic violence or had been trafficked, in her own home, she was laughed at by some who said she could never make a difference. She started the Charity on her own, with only her meagre pension, (she had taught in schools for 20 years) prior to starting Maiti Nepal. She now has a very impressive, safe compound for up to 300 woman and girls; many staff, and volunteers. There are staff at the border with India, and at the airport, they have the right to check each Nepali to ensure that they are not being tricked into crossing the border or being trafficked to India, and nowadays to the Middle East as a ‘Domestic Worker’. While I was in Nepal - 19th Sept to 12th Oct 2013 - a Law was passed by the Nepal Parliament that no Nepali younger than 18 was allowed to go and work overseas. What an amazing 20 years Anuradha has had! I admire her determination, her strength of character and not ever giving up on her idea of woman and children being free from exploitation. maitinepal.org/index.php However, according to the report from the Walk Free Foundation, there is still a lot of work to do. This is the reason for the lunch. To raise money for one Charity that is working to try to stop the exploitation of woman and children. Kathryn Sturrock 0448 239 150 Kathryn.Sturrock@gmail
