Charity: Sometimes when I see these fundraisers (and Ive been to a few) its such BS. A lot of it is superficial so people just feel good about themselves for doing something for the less fortunate in the world. Its not uncommon to pay a couple hundred dollars for a dinner but by the time they deduct the cost of the food, renting the space, organizers, promotors and paying the salaries to the founders hardly anything is left to be disbursed. You have celebrities that make tens of millions a movie and they give $5,000 or whatever they need for their tax deduction that year. Like Ashton Kutcher when he gave $100,000 to buy mosquito nets for people in Africa to help stop the spread of malaria when they have no food or clean water. And thats another gripe of mine, in some of these remote areas of Africa the average person makes, at best under $100 annually. The United States and the global community as a whole donates hundreds of millions of dollars to various African charities. Why are they still pulling water from mud holes and starving to death or still dont even have shelter beyond straw and mud huts? Eh, thats my rant for this morning.
