Charitys anti-scam campaign gets advertising industry backing A campaign to improve protection for older people from scams has been given the backing of the Advertising Standards Authority. The authority - the UKs advertising industry regulator - is raising awareness of Age Cymrus Scams and Swindles campaign, which aims to tackle the threat of scammers who steal millions from old and vulnerable people. According to the charity, between £5billion and £10billion is lost in the UK every year through direct marketing scams alone. The majority of advertisers play by the rules but unfortunately some bogus operators deliberately target older and vulnerable people. Its not fair that older people are left out of pocket by fraudulent and scam mail. Our practical advice builds upon the work of Age Cymru to help tackle this issue. – LYNSAY TAFFE, ADVERTISING STANDARDS AUTHORITY The ASA is encouraging those targeted by unwanted or nuisance mail to complete a complaints form on its website - asa.org.uk - so it can take action against the companies involved.
