Charlene woke me up Saturdsy morning November 5h and said she thought her labor pains had stated a few hours before. We drove down to Lady Ann Hospital in Livingston to see our GP. He said she still had a ways to go and for us to come back in the afternoon. We went back that afternoon and she was admitted . To make a really long story short, Anthony Howard Groce was born about 8:15PM Saturday November 5th 1960 and our lives were changed forever. I think he checked in at 8 lbs, five ounces and was a really healthy baby. We both were proud of our little boy. I ran across some old receipts recently and his hospital bill was $75.00. A little over three years later, the hospital bill for Anns birth was $115.00,,,,,Inflation was on the way............... Tony was a bright kid and grew up enjoying life in the country. one of my earliest memories is one of his two am feedings. I was in my second year at Tenn Tech and Charlene still worked at the local shirt factory. He had to be fed every four hours so she did the ten pm one and i took the two am one. We didnt have a bottle warmer so we put his bottle in a pan of water and heated it on our cook stove. I got up and put the bottle on and sat down for his bottle to warm up. Tony went back to sleep on my shoulder and I did the same in the chair. i woke up to a house full of smoke and a melted bottle and pan ! Those of you who have children know how you feel about your firstborn. There is a special bond that is always there. Tony has grown into a person who cares about others. He was always quick to point out inconsistencies in words and actions, especially mine. I am very proud of him and his work at Detroit Edison. He turned some Naval training in Nuclear Power into a career that has lasted over thirty years with Edison. Iv proud of you today, Tony, and I love you very much Have a really great birthday......Dad
