Charles E. Smith Life Communities is hiring a Director of Annual Giving The Director of Annual Giving is responsible for the design and implementation of a coordinated, integrated Annual Giving effort. In coordination with other gift officers and initiatives (at any given point including but not limited to Major Gifts, Planned Gifts, Capital Campaign, overall Communication), the Director of Annual Giving has specific responsibility for utilizing the organizational messages and communication strategies to carry out: In coordination with direct mail consultants and other vendors, a broad-based unrestricted annual fundraising drive utilizing direct mail, e-solicitation, social media, and potentially other forms of direct marketing solicitation; Support and enhance the high-end annual giving solicitation program the Guardian Campaign through management and facilitation of face to face or personal solicitations, Recruiting, supporting, and training new volunteer solicitors; Management and support of the Guardian Campaign Committee; Overseeing with Director of Special Events the Guardian Campaign events, including kick-off, parlour meetings, and Presidents Circle Dinner; Personal management and solicitation of a portfolio of 100-150 prospects, mostly comprised of high-end annual giving prospects; Design and oversight of annual donor stewardship and acknowledgement systems; and, Recruitment, management and support for the H2YP Youth Philanthropy Program and other community-related donor education programs. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Essential job responsibilities: 30% of Time: Working with direct mail consultant, design and implement broad-based direct marketing programs for donor cultivation and solicitation, including direct-mail, e-solicitation, and other solicitation methods as needed. Work within assigned direct mail budget; meet annual goals for unrestricted gifts from these streams. 30% of Time: Working with the Guardian Campaign Committee, design, implement and support high-end personally solicited unrestricted annual giving campaign, including but not limited to: identifying, recruiting, training solicitors and committee members; identifying and assigning new prospects for solicitation at the $1,000+ annual levels; identifying and assigning upgrade prospects; managing engagement and outreach events related to the Guardian Campaign (Presidents Circle Dinner, Parlour Meetings, or similar). Meet annual goals for unrestricted giving from this stream. 20% of Time: Participate in Prospect Management by coordinating annual gift solicitations of assigned prospects; maintain personal portfolio of 100-150 prospects, primarily high-end annual giving donors or prospects, with responsibility to cultivate and engage them for maximum leadership and philanthropic engagement. 10% of Time: Design, implement, and oversee community-focused philanthropy initiatives, primarily the H2YP Youth Philanthropy Program. 5% of Time: Coordinate general stewardship and annual gift acknowledgement processes. 5% of Time: Other duties as assigned in support of the mission of Charles E. Smith Life Communities. QUALIFICATIONS Requirements A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in annual giving, with experience in designing or managing a direct mail program; Experience working with, motivating, training, and managing working volunteer committees; Exceptional demonstrated written and oral communication skills in the English language; Excellent customer service orientation and attention to detail; Temperament suitable to working in what can be a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment; Exceptional recognition of ethical and legal requirements of confidentiality in handling of sensitive information and situations; Fluency in MS Office products: MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Access, MS Outlook; and, Bachelors degree from an accredited institution. Preferences: Demonstrated familiarity with some aspect of our mission: Greater Washington philanthropy, Jewish organizations, seniors, health-care, long-term care, public relations, or social service Experience with Blackbauds Raisers Edge. OTHER INFORMATION This position is categorized as an Exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act. It will require accessibility to participate in crisis/situation management, and may require evening and weekend hours to cover stories and events, as well as access to reliable transportation. In addition, this position is required to participate in required orientation and other forms of professional development required for all Charles E. Smith Life Communities employees.
