Charlie Chaplin, who happens to be my idol, was not only the First - TopicsExpress

Charlie Chaplin, who happens to be my idol, was not only the First Original Filmmaker, who really started the Film Production as we know it today, but he was also a great man and a true humanist. A man for justice and peace in the world, fighting against the tyranny of Fascist racism, during its power, when very little did so openly. Nevertheless, even though his films brought light and laughter to the world, the story of his real life was far more sadder, then those portrayed on the screen. In the days of Fascism in Europe leading to WW II, as well as pro-Fascists and KKK in the US, there were many who hated him for his liberal views. Therefore in order to destroy his reputation, there were many deceptive lies and low false accusations systematically glued to him, simply in order to deport him from the US. These deceptive methods were done by the very kind of people he stood against, and that he mentions right here in this famous speech in The Great Dictator (1940). Where Chaplin cleverly makes fun of Hitler him self. Note, that this movie did not come out in 1945, but in 1940, before US, and many other countries entered WW II. This came out at the time when US was still neutral towards Hitlers Nazi Germany. A very gutsy move by someone like Charlie Chaplin. Unfortunately, the hate towards Chaplins views was so great, that it finally defeated him, when he was falsely accused of being a Communist by the Anti-Communist Witch Hunt. Hence they finally succeeded to deport him in 1952.
