Charlotte Observer (NC): On Oct. 22, students at C.C. Griffin Middle School participated in SAVE – Students Against Violence Everywhere – a program that engages students in meaningful violence prevention efforts within their schools and communities. C.C. Griffin Middle SAVE Chapter president Jirah Sidberry and members Bobbie Williams and Melissa Chavez spoke to students, encouraging them to take a stand against violence. The school’s step team, dance team and Excel Chorus performed, and students released balloons to remember those affected by violence. SAVE, whose slogan is Youth Voices … Grown-up Choices, was started by students from West Charlotte High School in 1989 after the death of a classmate who was trying to break up a fight at an off-campus party.
