Charter Manufacturing remains committed to Feith YMCA Mequon-based company hopes donors will meet its $100,000 challenge By Colleen Jurkiewicz - News Graphic Correspondent MEQUON — On Aug. 15, the Charter Manufacturing Company Foundation made a $100,000 challenge donation to the “Keep the Feith” campaign in support of the Kettle Moraine YMCA’s attempt to be the successful bidder when the Feith Family YMCA building goes up for auction on Sept. 29. Last week, the foundation released a statement quoting the Mellowes family – who have been at the helm of the corporation for four generations – elaborating on the importance of the capital campaign. “Charter has been a committed supporter of the Feith Family Ozaukee YMCA from the Y’s earliest days, and we have seen its value grow and blossom over the past 15 years,” read the statement. “We are proud to offer this challenge grant to ‘Keep the Feith.’ It’s one way to help ensure the Feith Family Y can continue to thrive, do its good work and serve families in Saukville and Ozaukee County.” Charter Manufacturing is based in Mequon and has operated a plant in Saukville since 1978. The company donated $500,000 to the initial campaign to build Feith in 1999. It reports that about 10 percent of its employees are members there. “It is a resource for the community and is an important organization,” the foundation’s statement said. “We like the programs that the YMCA offers and our employees take advantage of the resources as well.” The Feith Family YMCA is being auctioned off as part of the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee’s filing for bankruptcy under Chapter 11. “The support that Charter Manufacturing Company Foundation has provided us is amazing,” said Rob Johnson, executive director of the Kettle Moraine YMCA. “To have a company in Ozaukee County choose to reinvest in an organization that they helped to build almost 15 years ago is great. “There are so many wonderful individuals, families, businesses and foundations who allow the Y to continue to grow and thrive as a nonprofit. When we began this journey, we did not know the extent of the relationships that the Feith Family Ozaukee YMCA had throughout the entire county.” The “Keep the Feith” campaign has been operating a website, keepthefeith.org, and a Facebook page of the same name.
