Chas & John: RE: Tigers time VS Rorys time. Ive been playing longer than I have been watching golf on TV. Of course back when I use to ride on my Dads pull cart which got me interested in golf there was no golf on TV. Small town in West Texas, maybe Monday or Tuesday you might read about what Hogan and Palmer and FAT Jack were doing. There was no life after the Tour back then but --- and former PGA Star Don January is now the head professional at Plano Municipal Golf Course. I was glad for the Senior Tour and I saw the first 15 Legonds of Golf at Onion Creek in Austin. That was back so long ago most dont even remember those days but some will member. I remember standing on the practice tee at the Legonds with nothing but a single rope strung between folding chairs between you and the players. Gene Littlers clubs were so close to me I could have handed him his wedge. This was before club endorsments, Gene had three different kind of clubs in his bag. For those who remember having a favorite club either a 7 iron or 8 iron, perhaps a wedge you could not miss with. You changed sets of clubs you put that CAN:T MISS club in with your new set. Thats what Gene was playing with. Back then we ground our own wedges. Still can grind one as good an any manufacturer can with all their computerized efforts Ill bet the whole damn farm on it. They still dont grind the like that should. I mean if they did you would not need two or three wedges as you could produce all the shots you ever needed with one ground down right. Hogans Equalizer was as good a ground wedge then as any wedge made today ------ and that my friends is an Andy By God fact right there now Im here to told you. I never figures anyone would come onto the Professional Golfers Tour and completely dominate it. And I do mean completely and totally dominate every area of the game. But Tiger Woods did not just dominate the game he played a game that no one ever before him played and it was damn great to watch someone set the bar so high that only he could jump over it. Do you realize no athlete in any sport ever had two major win streaks. Tiger broke his own Major Win Streak and then had another. Is Tiger the best golfer that golf has ever seen. ----- ----- You Damn Skippy & slap your self if you think differently I dont care about Jacks 18 Majors so dont even begin to go there. His biggest accomplishment to me is finishing 2nd 20 times and even with that he never completely and totally intimidated every single golfer playing the Tour for 15 years. The 20 greatest golf shot ever struck in competition Tiger owns all 40 of them. Every sport has great athletes, every sport has its Super Stars. Then there come that ------ 100 YEAR STORM ATHLETE ---------- that totally transcends SUPERSTAR and when that happens the Super Stars themselves take a step back when they see an athlete that is better than they ever though of being they are in total AWE as they witness an athlete who can do things they cant imagine doing themselves. There have only been a few of those 100 year storm athletes. Ali in Boxing, The Great One in Hockey, His Airness in Basketball and Tiger Woods is that once in a life time 100 year storm in golf. A player no one who witnessed his dominance will ever see again in their life time. And that is what make him the best golfer there ever was regardless of breaking Jacks record in the majors of not. ---------- If you dont believe me ask anyone on tour.
