Chase report 24Nov 2014. Had my eye on a couple of target areas and outer Darwin and the city were not on my agenda. Given the storm formation further afield I decided to head south. I was a little hesitant even though the lightning production was good inland but visually there was so much cloud it was hard to see where the storm towers were. I headed further south and a couple of large strokes were ahead of me so I waited. The rain core was large and there was no way I was going to head further. So I back-tracked and ended up in Batchelor. Probably a good decision as the lightning was prolific. No radar coverage, so had to use old school chasing and just watch the sky. Most of them came out as I tried to find a good vantage point which was annoying, but ended up with a couple of shots. The drive home was atrocious. White out, side-ways rain, constant lightning close by and strong winds... On nightfall the visuals were even worse, radar was useless really. Caught was looks like an upward flash...but not sure...will have to look at it further. Overall happy with location chosen and what I got considering the blanket of cloud obscuring the storms.
