Chasing Ones Shadow Many Nigerians are too naive to have forgotten to borrow a leaf from our history.I was in my primary school in Lagos, when the military junta issued out a decree in 1992 to sack lecturers who flouted its order about re-opening of universities.Though i was a young boy then,my father brought my virgin wisdom to the impasse.The sack threat failed,as goverment withdrew its decree and accepted to honour the agreements(maybe partially).Now the situation is here again.Government is repeating and re-opening the old wound.Achebe used to give a warning of this kind: that government has failed the citizens.December 4th will be historic in Nigeria and our unborn children will never forget a fight against obnoxious threats of the dignity of labour.I think better solutions should be endorsed than this costly sack threat of those who have laid the foundation of our better tomorrow.I think both parties need a re-think of the whole process,especially as we await the bury of Prof Festus Iyayi on December 4th,2013.
