Chastanet got a lot of licks for not having a handle on the PATOIS LANGUAGE. Fair enough.That episode has a deeper message to it.In too many instances it represents our negative attitude towards the backbone of our culture.To me PATOIS represents multiple positives.The language represents ,creativity,ingenuity necessitated out of a need to to survive. Its a melodious language, beautifully concocted .Resilience in abundance.The slaves were able to master the art of utilizing their masters language and theirs to forge a revolutionary concept.Simply ingenious !!The new language represents their determination to survive against the odds.We have to be proud of such an achievements.Now the question is ,why would a native of the land ,born an raised here ,a patriot,not want to be able to speak our mother tongue fluently? Shame?Arrogance?I wish i knew.Chastanet is not the only one.There are so many others.Be careful ,my friend,you might be pointing a finger at yourself and may be a close friend,or a close associate. So lets be all proud St. Lucians and speak our PATOIS any where and any time.I AM THE PATRIOT.
