Chat with Chingbee about influential books from childhood begat this list: * TINTIN books, particularly the Aztec adventure, the Unicorn adventure, THE SHOOTING STAR, and THE CASTAFIORE EMERALD. * HELLBLAZER books, particularly the Ennis-Simpson-Dillon bits. * CATCHER IN THE RYE by Salinger - I read this in my late teens, though, like 17 or so. * Asimovs FOUNDATION books. * Clarkes RAMA books (I really really REALLY LOVE the RAMA books) * Bradburys THE MARTIAN CHRONICLES. * Kings PET SEMATARY. Pretty screwed up book. * a book on Davy Crockett by brother made me read when I was 10 or 11 - the first book I read that wasnt a comic book, wasnt a science book, wasnt an issue of NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC (my grandad had a subscription for years and years and years). Forgot what this books title was, but it sparked the fire of nature writing in me, a fire Ive yet to fan (although Id like to think this fire burns a bit in my urban walking writing).
