Chatsilog (2010) by M.O.B (Jenifer Wofford, Eliza Barrios, Reanne Estrada) and Carlos Villa M.O.B (Jenifer Baby Wofford, Eliza Neneng Barrios, Reanne Immaculata Estrada) and Carlos Villa offer the delights of CHATSILOG, a reflection on the desire to connect across the distance and time zones, a meditation on the shortcomings of digitally-dependent communication and the false sense of security it provides, and an effort at long-distance collaboration between 4 artists inhabiting 4 different places in the world, with the goal of producing a remote project in a 5th location. CHATSILOG is a bittersweet, comedic attempt to cohere fragmented interactions into an illusory, temporary space that, for the duration of the project, the artists can share and jointly occupy. M.O.Bs participation in The Ephemera of Disposable Goods series marks the groups first exhibition in Manila. For over a decade, Eliza Barrios, Reanne Estrada and Jenifer Wofford have worked collaboratively as Mail Order Brides/M.O.B., a trio of Filipina American artists engaged in an ongoing collaborative investigation of culture, race and gender. Carlos Villa is an artist and professor at the San Francisco Art Institute. He is a beloved gem of San Francisco, nurturing a lot of artists, and founding & supporting alternative art spaces and platforms, and pushing the boundaries in art-making. Very recently, he just curated an exhibition entitled, Rehistorizing Abstract Expressionism in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 1994 he brought the 3 member of M.O.B together for a research project, and things have never been the same since.
