Check out Reading University Student Unions programme of open-to-all events for #BlackHistoryMonth Celebrate Black History Month 2014 in style with RUSU. Come along to the following free events: Monday 6th October, Café Mondial, 7.30 – 10.00pm, Film Showing ‘The Color Purple’ Directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Whoopi Goldberg, this multi-award winning movie is an emotional portrayal of an LGBT African American woman. Monday 13th October, Café Mondial, 7.30 – 10.00pm, Film Showing ‘Do The Right Thing’ American comedy drama directed by and starring Spike Lee. Charts the emotional story of simmering racial tension which comes to a head on the hottest day of the year. Wednesday 15th October, Upper 3sixty, 2.00 – 4.00pm, Sew in Solidarity Session 1 Your chance to get creative and to help RUSU beat the world record for the largest quilt ever created. Friday 17th October, Mojo’s, from 7.30pm, Open Mic Night hosted by the Afro Caribbean Society Monday 20th October, Café Mondial, 6.00 – 10.00pm, Film Showing ’12 Year’s a Slave’ An Oscar-winning critically acclaimed portrayal of an African American man who was kidnapped and sold into slavery, and his struggle for emancipation.
