Check out member success story from our Bush St location: My name is Ray Sullivan and I joined Life Fit Gym on September 12, 2014. I decided to join the gym to regain some mobility that I lost due to chronic hip osteoarthritis. Prior to joining the gym I was unable to walk more than two blocks without severe hip pain. I weighed 194 lbs., with around 30% body fat. My blood pressure was elevated and I had a lot of trouble sleeping at night. I began my fitness journey by establishing a daily walking routine. I found that small, obtainable goals worked best for me at first. I started out walking around 6 to 8 blocks everyday, and slowly increased the distance to a mile after a month. By the end of October I was walking to and from the office (about 2 miles everyday), and working out at the gym 5 times per week. I usually wear my workout clothes while I walk the San Francisco hills to go shopping, run errands, etc., and then I stop by the gym for a quick workout on my way home. Ive found that this consistency is a key factor in both reaching and maintaining my fitness goals. I love to walk! It helps to reduce stress and clears my head before returning home from a stressful day at work. Fitness for me involves doing activities and eating foods everyday that are both healthy, and that I enjoy. In the first month of my gym membership, Pete helped me develop a personalized fitness program. This program combined cardiovascular training, weight training and functional training utilizing the TRX System. After my daily walk, I arrive at the gym and start out with a 20 to 30 minute cardiovascular workout on one of the elliptical training machines. I like to use the interval training setting on a fairly high resistance. This helps me keep my heart rate between 120 and 160 beats per minute throughout the entire workout. After warming up on the elliptical machine I move to the TRX System or Polaris weight training machines, on alternating days. Ive found that moving quickly throughout the TRX exercises and the stations of the Polaris machines helps me keep my heart rate up, and makes the resistance training part of my workout routine go by much faster. I am usually in and out of the gym in under 45 minutes. This makes my workout routine fun and easy to stick with. I am happy to say that 4 months after joining Live Fit Gym I weigh 146 lbs. Im down to 17% body fat and my blood pressure is normal. I sleep great every night and I wake up rested. Ive also noticed that the headaches I used to experience have disappeared, and I havent gotten sick with a cold or flu this year. I am a much healthier and happier person now, and I hope to maintain this increased level of whole body fitness throughout the new year. The awesome people at Live Fit Gym have helped me throughout my entire fitness journey, and continue to encourage me to maintain my fitness goals. I am truly grateful for the positive outcome Ive achieved from joining Live Fit Gym last September!
