Go girl! ---------- Cardel Homes recognizes successful women Staff writer Impact! Cardel Homes has been a successful family-owned home builder since 1973. The business has been built on the foun- dation of families it builds for and the career development of the people who become family by working for Cardel. Cardel’s Ottawa president Greg Graham recognizes a few female members of the team as part of our ongoing Women in Construction coverage. Jenny Black began her career with Cardel almost 11 years ago as an interior designer. She is now design centre manag- er and a person Graham calls his ‘super- star’ because she is someone the company cannot run without. “Jenny is so well-rounded,” he said. “She helps our clients customize their homes from exterior elevations to interior details. She sits on our communications team, works with the vice president of sales and the sales team on customer serv- ice and understanding client expectations and with the vice-president of production on plans and designs.” He says she also works closely with the construction team and is a regular visi- tor to job sites to ensure a home is pro- gressing as expected. Graham says Black is as much a psy- chologist as a designer, helping people navigate through the decision-filled process of buying a home. Having gone through the home buying process on a personal level with Cardel, she is not afraid to give clients advice both with selecting materials and with which choic- es make sense financially now and which are easily adapted down the road. Graham says one of Black’s most important skills is her ability to listen and learn from her diverse client base, not only hearing but understanding each per- son’s unique lifestyle, needs and concerns. Black is also a mentor, helping to inspire, motivate and guide young people coming into the company.
