Check out our Blog Post: The Traveling Agent TPI - Capturing Your Destination Wedding Memories! When couples start planning their destination wedding, they quickly realize there are many details that need to be addressed before arriving to their location to be married. One such detail is hiring a Photographer to capture their precious wedding moments, and this one detail can be confusing and at times one of the most stressful planning decisions! As your travel professional, we do much of the research and work to ensure that the destination of your choice and wedding ceremony venue is going to be perfect and it will suit all your wants and needs, but when it comes to recommending a wedding photographer, this is an area many travel professionals are not experienced in, and it normally became the couple’s sole responsibility to do the necessary research to find the right photographer for them. Of course as part of our ongoing services to the couple, we do contact the resorts and cruise companies to find out what photographers they recommend, but even when these recommendations come forward, we still don’t have guarantees of their quality of work. Finding a Quality Destination Wedding Photographer can be a Hit or Miss We fully understand that when a couple seeks out a photographer for their wedding that it can really be a gamble, and one that truly could cost you in the end. If the photographer you hired doesn’t meet your expectations, or the photos don’t turn out the way you believed they would, this is something that you can’t go back in time and do over again. But there’s a light at the end of the tunnel for your Wedding Photos! As destination weddings became increasingly popular over the years, so has the concept of hiring local photographers that were more than happy to join you wedding couples to take their photos. This is a great option to consider, because you not only get to meet the photographer in person, but also in most cases you will have an opportunity to do a trial run to make sure they’re exactly what you’re looking for in a photographer. Many photographers also offer Pre-engagement photo sessions that are included in their photography packages, and this is a great way to see and experience the work prior to your wedding date. Now the advantages go far beyond just getting to know your photographer! The fact that your personal photographer will be at destination with you for the week, he/she will have the opportunity to negotiate several photo sessions. Throw in a complimentary tour for the photographer, and you may get some fantastic shots in a variety of different locations! Your photographer will not only be doing your wedding ceremony, but also you can negotiate to have him do your reception and a trash the dress session as well. We know by past experience that many photographers that you hire at destination will be given a day pass to photograph your ceremony, but that may be it. If they have to leave the property right after they are done, you don’t have the luxury of the aftermath photos as mentioned above. Or if they do stay longer for your dinner reception and trash the dress the next day, you know that’s going to be a large additional cost. Excellent Photographers Are Not Hard To Find, But a Photographer That Happened To Have Their Own Destination Wedding Is! There are many professional photography companies to choose from, however, we truly lucked out when we caught wind that one of our past destination wedding clients was a photographer, and he wanted to branch out and offer his services for couples looking to bring one with them. Mark had a spectacular wedding in Punta Cana where he happed to hire a local photographer out of Winnipeg to join them to do their photos. I believe during his time in the Dominican that he truly realized that this was one of their best decisions, and this was something that he would love to do as well. When we finally had a moment to talk to Mark and find out that he was willing to provide his services for couples, we recommended him to a few that were interested and it just worked out he was available. We had the opportunity to follow one of our clients through Facebook and it looked like they met Mark and arranged to have a pre-engagement photo shoot. After their meeting and session, it was clear the couple were extremely happy with their choice, and the fact that they knew that Mark had his own destination wedding, just made our clients that much more confident and happy they made the right choice hiring Mark. I can go on and on about the benefits of hiring a local photographer, but in reality the option is not suited for all couples. However, if you really want to capture your most precious memories in complete confidence, then going this route may be the way to go. You will be surprised after you negotiate the costs that it is not much more than hiring a photographer at destination. When you really do the comparison, there’s no comparison, because the value that you receive is so much more! If you happen to be getting married in the Caribbean, Mexico, or somewhere in North America, we highly recommend that you consider talking to Mark to find out what’s all included in his destination wedding packages, and to reach him you can visit his Photography Website at: markwillisphotography.ca where Mark has a fantastic portfolio that you can view, as well his contact form is on the site to ask him any questions, or to set up an appointment to discuss details.
