Check out our Science Workshops for 2013-14, including biology on Oct. 3 Just a reminder that you can access all our science workshops at our website resa.net/science. Select the month you are interested in from the drop-down box and the workshops that are available will be populated. Additionally, many PD sessions are available as part of our Tri-County Collaborative held at the Detroit Zoo. This is a partnership with Wayne RESA, Macomb ISD, Oakland Schools and the Detroit Zoo. Notice that seven of our workshops will be delivered in a blended format meaning that there are 2 session, the first being on a webinar. This means you can attend from wherever you are, be it your kitchen, school or car. The second event is all day at the Zoo. Therefore, they are listed twice on the calendar. Once a teacher registers they will receive a notice that explains how to check the readiness of your computer and how to attend the webinar. Applying NGSS Practices to High School Biology Webinar: Thursday, October 3, 2013 Detroit Zoo: Wednesday, November 6, 2013 Facilitator: Allison Maes, Ferndale Schools This workshop will help teachers begin to address the NGSS practices this school year using instructional strategies that put students into the role of a scientist. This is a two-part workshop that begins with a webinar where teachers discuss and plan to use a new instructional approach. Teachers try the approach prior to the second session (which is Face to face at Zoo held at the Detroit Zoo.) There, teachers will practice and reflect on those approaches and begin to develop a deeper understanding of the NGSS. Participants will see what the NGSS looks like in a model high school biology lesson that emphasize students work with argumentation and evidence based reasoning. More strategies and resources will be shared.
