Check out our intensives on Sunday morning at the @Chesapeake Chesapeake Herb Gathering, Herbs & Roots: Herbal Medicine in a Cultural Context with Ayo Ngozi, Herbalist What we know as traditional Western Herbalism has been influenced by Native American, African, European and other cultures; diverse religious and spiritual practices; and materia medica culled from many regions and perspectives. This workshop will use the history and culture of herbalism in the US history to learn about materia medica, energetics, plant spirit medicine, and doctrine of signatures. Ayo Ngozi is a clinical herbalist in private practice in Washington, DC where she works with clients of all ages and backgrounds. Her areas of clinical interest include adrenal and nervous system dysregulation, women’s wellness, and nutrition and preventative care for chronic conditions including diabetes, hypertension, and autoimmune disorders. She also has a research interest in the history of herbal medicine practice in the US and the Caribbean. Deeply committed to educating others, Ayo is also lead instructor at Centro Ashé Farm in southern Maryland, where she designs the curriculum and teaches second-year students in its community-based herbalism program. She guest lectures at the Maryland University of Integrative Health and at conferences and gatherings along the East Coast.
