Check out some new opportunities in Heritage Park that will be starting in the next few weeks. *Free Tutoring for Reading will be offered to any students in K-3rd grade. Tutoring services are provided through a partnership with the Academic Achievement Program from Phyllis Wheatley Community Center. Tutoring sessions will take place in the Leasing Office building afterschool Monday – Thursday. For more information on how to enroll your child – contact Alecia. *Cooking & Nutrition Classes through Cooking Matters for all ages beginning Tuesday, Oct. 8th. Classes are provided through the Cooking Matters program at the University of Minnesota, and participants will learn about nutrition, healthy cooking practices, and budgeting. Classes will take place on Tuesdays from 11 – 1pm in the Community Room. If you are interested in signing up – contact Alecia. *Group Tours of the Farmer’s Market – Anyone who receives SNAP and is interested in shopping at the Farmer’s Market is encouraged to join us for a tour and interactive information session on how to use your SNAP benefits at the Farmer’s Market. Participants will receive a $5 match for money spent on produce at the Market. If you are interested, contact Alecia. *Basic Computer Classes will be starting in October in the Community Room. If you are interested in gaining some basic computer skills - like typing, searching the internet, word processing, and e-mail – consider signing up for one of the 6 week computer skills classes. Ongoing Programs at Heritage Park include: *Homework Help: For school age youth – grades K – 12; Mondays and Wednesdays 3:15 – 5:00pm Homework Help is located in the Community Room. *Weekly Teen Group: A place for teens to come together and discuss issues in a safe environment, learn new skills, and have fun together. For teens in 8th grade – 12th grade; Tuesdays from 6:00-8:00pm. Teen Group meets in the Community Room. *Job Search: If you are currently looking for work and would like to have your resume reviewed or create a cover letter, contact Alecia today to make an appointment.
