Check out starting at about 4:50 or so if you just want to get an idea of Marine Corps bootcamp and not see the comparison with the Army. Otherwise, watch the whole thing for a good idea of realistic conditions. This, ladies and gentlemen, is why we Marines are the few and the proud. This is toned down from earlier generations of Marines such as my father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather. This video is very similar to my personal experience in 1990. I respect the Army, they are very good at their job. Their training is less intense and 2/3 the length because they are not recruited to be shock troops and do the crazy ass missions the Marine Corps is given regularly. While some may find the images disturbing, thinking a poor teenage boy is being harassed and hazed unmercifully by up to 5 Dril Instructors (who seem much older and more mature but are actually only 5-8 years his senior) at a time, remember that same poor teenage boy is tasked with defending our interests worldwide and doing it from a forward position against superior manpower on most occasions. 239 years of training Marines has created some interesting and terrifying training methods. However, the effectiveness of said training methods can not be overstated. I have just returned from visiting the Marines at the front, and there is not a finer fighting organization in the world! [Gen. Douglas MacArthur, USA; Korea, 21 September 1950] Oorah! Semper Fidelis. Fratres Eternus.
