Check out the media safety tips for the Black Hat conference Im heading to in Las Vegas this week! SAFETY TIPS TO PREVENT BLACK HAT TRICKS You are about to enter one the most hostile environments in the world. Here are some safety tips to keep in mind: • Hackers are in Vegas and like to play. • Everything can be hacked, including your brain. • Your hotel key card can be scanned by touch, so keep it deep in your wallet. • Use a shielded wallet if you have RFID credit cards or identification. • Do not use the ATM machines anywhere near the conference. • Bring cash and a low balance credit card with just enough to get you through the week. • Turn off Fire Sharing, Bluetooth and Wifi on all devices. • Dont use the Wifi network unless you are a security expert; we have wired lines for you to use in the Media Center. • Dont accept gifts, unless you know the person very well - a USB device, for instance. • Be up to date on all patches before arriving in Vegas. Tell your security guy where you are going, have them configure your computer and encrypt it. • Make sure you have strong passwords on ALL your devices. • Change your passwords immediately after leaving Vegas. • Dont leave a device out of sight, even for a moment. • People are watching you at all times, especially if you are new to the scene. Talk quietly and conduct confidential phone calls off site. • Wear a tinfoil hat (ok, kidding about this one …although we do see at least one every year!)
