Check out the readers comments on the Wisbech Standard Christmas Lights Discussion. wisbechstandard.co.uk/news/more_than_100_wisbech_standard_readers_have_had_their_say_on_30_000_christmas_lights_make_over_how_will_you_vote_1_3806402 Notice that the Comment by Michael Humphrey is fake. Its not by Michael Humphrey. So somebody sees fit to set up a fake readers account pretending to be a local COuncillor and write derogatory comments. Typically cowardly, and I expect I know precisely who it is, but there you go. The character Clarkson Cross is another one operating under a pseudonym in order to make little attacks. People operate under pseudonyns for a reason. Usually because they are an interested party. I wonder who? There was one comment that Ive had removed because it was particularly unpleasant and upset my wife. What puzzles me is why people feel the need to be unpleasant? All we have here is an opportunity for people to choose either to proceed with Christmas Lights or not to, in a proper democratic way. Each year, Councillors get complaints about the lights and those complaints are often quite unpleasant. Then a proposal is put forwards to address it, with the final decision being left to the public, and still the comments are unpleasant. Dean Reeves comment is well thought out, even if it does somewhat miss the point. Its a shame that things are always accused of being electoral gimmickry though. In fact such things dont have a lot of effect on how people vote, and when they DO they LOSE as many votes as they gain. I fully expect that these comments are all the work of the same tiny handful of Usual Suspects. But you often get people asking why local politicians dont get on and do things more often. This is why. Because when you try and do the things people have asked you to do, you get attacked for it. Even if you try and do it in the most democratic way possible - by letting the people decide yes or no!
