Check out this beautiful poem inspired by Adoption Sunday and penned by our own Tom Nauman! I’ve Made You My Son by Tom Nauman I look all around the church and I see Children smiling joyfully. Sure, some seem like they need more rest And some look like they’re not feeling the best. But each one will leave the church this morn To go to a place that is safe and warm. And tonight as they kneel to say prayers before bed They likely will have a strong roof overhead. But as each one drifts into slumbering bliss, Their foreheads still damp from a parents last kiss, Another group of children will still be awake Asking if God has made a mistake “Isn’t there some place where I won’t feel alone? Isn’t there some place I can finally call home? Isn’t there someone to wrap arms around me? And say “welcome home” permanently?” When we see the need and come along side, With hearts that are soft and arms open wide, We’re doing the same thing that God did for us When His Son, Jesus Christ, gave His life on a cross. He said “My Son’s blood has cleansed you from sin, My home is now open, take my hand, come on in. Your fight with rejection is over! You’ve won! ‘Cause I’ve made you my daughter, I’ve made you my son.” Group homes and orphanages do the best that they can But the system can’t replace the touch of the hand Of a parent who says “Stay warm and sleep tight, I’ll be her to greet you at the end of your night. No need to be scared, there’s no need to roam, Your wand’ring is over, you’re finally home. Your fight with rejection is over! You’ve won! ‘Cause I’ve made you my daughter, I’ve made you my son.”
