Check out this event coming up on Saturday!! Kisatchie National Forest Celebrates National Get Outdoors Day Pineville, La. (May 29, 2013) Kisatchie National Forest will host an event from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 8, 2013, as part of National Get Outdoors Day (GO Day), the fifth annual event to encourage healthy, active outdoor fun. Jennifer Heisey, Natural Resources Specialist, with Kisatchie National Forest, explains, “National Get Outdoors Day is a perfect opportunity for central Louisiana families to explore the great outdoors right in their own backyard at the Kincaid Recreation Area.” Heisey goes on to say, “There are many community members who have never been swimming at Kincaid Lake, hiked to our resident Bald Eagles’ nest, or had a picnic with their family in Louisiana’s only National Forest.” Kisatchie National Forest’s GO Day event will offer a mix of outdoor activities including: mountain biking, trail running, hiking, canoeing, rowing, yoga, a Cross Fit workout and more. All of the activities are free of charge and will take place by the Kincaid Lake swim beach/ pavilion area. There will be activities offered every hour on the hour beginning at 8a.m. until 11 a.m. Our community partners are Run Wild, Red River Cyclery, Yoga Ya-Ya, Cross Fit Alexandria, and Mike Haworth, rowing instructor and personal trainer at the Louisiana Athletic Club and Tack –a – Paw Expeditions. In addition, to these activities the annual Calcasieu Ranger District Fishing Derby will also be taking place from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Valentine Lake. The fishing derby is open to all children up to age 14 there is no cost, just come ready to fish! The goals of National Get Outdoors Day are two-fold: reaching first-time visitors to public lands and reconnecting kids to the great outdoors. “The best thing about Get Outdoors Day is that the US Forest Service and our partners will be the outdoor guides so first timers are encouraged to come out to the national forest,” said Heisey. “We want central Louisiana families to get inspired to enjoy the great outdoors, be active, and have fun with their families!” For more information about National Get Outdoors Day on Kisatchie National Forest contact, Jennifer Heisey at (318) 793-9427 or [email protected] or Amy Robertson, at (318) 542-8688 or [email protected].
