Check out this exciting course happening next semester -- there is still room if you want to register! Classics of Christian Thought (RELGST 0315; CRN 28512) Prof. Brock Bahler Spring 2015 T/Th 9:30AM-10:45AM Have you ever considered what the most influential thinkers in the Christian tradition said in their own words? And have you ever wondered how Christianity, with its flawed history of justifying Crusades, colonialism, and slavery is maintained and rearticulated by believers who have experienced the underside of Empire? This course will examine full texts and selections by seminal figures such as Augustine, Aquinas, Calvin, Luther, Teresa of Avila, Kierkegaard, and C. S. Lewis but also the work of underrepresented thinkers such as Bartolome de las Casas, Martin Luther King Jr., Mary Radford Reuther, and Desmond Tutu. Our discussions will cover topics such as justice and civil disobedience, religious experience and the nature of faith, revelation and aesthetics, and religion and culture. Along the way we will also discuss the continued influence of each figure among recent and contemporary scholars.
