Check out this great interview that UKCowboysFans did with Brandon Carr this week.. UKCF: Which rookie do you think will have the biggest impact for the Cowboys this year? BRANDON CARR: Im going to go with DeMarcus Lawrence. Early on watching the OTAs on film, seeing how he can get off the ball I forget that hes a rookie. Him and Tyron (Smith) have some battles already without pads on. I can only imagine when training camp starts its going to get heated! Hes a kind of guy who doesnt talk much, just goes out there and does his job. Hes got a chip on his shoulder but in a good way. UKCF: Which area do you need to work on, and how are you looking to do that this year? BRANDON CARR: I think I need to improve on getting the ball more. Ive got to create turnovers and get the ball back to Tony. Allow him to work the offense. I want to push myself, and challenge myself each and every year. I always think as a defensive back you can improve yourself by getting the ball back and making more turnovers for your team. UKCF: Whats the main advantage of playing man coverage over zone coverage? BRANDON CARR: You have to worry about nothing but your man! Thats your guy. From start to finish thats who you have. Zone coverage theres certain windows where you cant really jump those routes. Your responsibility is something different. We all should be better in man to man coverage. UKCF: Hows the scheme change going? BRANDON CARR: Year 2 is going well. Last year we were feeling our way around, coaches and players. This is what we do. Weve had the offseason to break it all down, know everyones strengths and weaknesses. See the numbers of everything that goes on. Year 2 so far in OTAs coaches are doing a great job of playing to our strengths. We want to fight our weaknesses so put ourselves in stressful situations and learn from it. UKCF: Do you feel were rebuilding or on the cusp of something great? BRANDON CARR: I still think were on the cusp. Weve added new faces both older and the younger guys the rookies. Weve still got the core of our team. Our core guys are in the in the system and still there. Its a mentaltiy change. Having belief that we can get that extra stop in the 4th quarter. That comes with going out there and doing it. Start believing in yourself and you can go out and execute it. We want to start having fun, then we can cause a bit of chaos. Youve got to have fun, and that comes from in the week- being on cue with your playbook, asking questions, practice, hitting everything in the way it should be hit. So when the lights come on theres no skipping beats. UKCF: Whos the toughest wide receiver youve covered in our division? BRANDON CARR: Pierre Garcon. I know him from his Indianapolis Colts days, but (Brandon) Flowers covered him then. Hes got speed, quickness, hes so strong. As their go to guy once he gets running and his confidence is up its so hard to stop him. UKCF: Is Dez Bryant one of the most physical wide receivers? BRANDON CARR: Yes! One of the most physical, one of the most talented, gifted, extraordinary - whatever you want to call him! He works hard, so so hard. At our walk-through hes running. Everyday hes doing something to get himself ready for the game. You can see his true passion. I think its a tribute to him growing up the last few years. The light bulb came on and he realised he was born for this team. Hes the man and has got to keep riding that big horse! UKCF: Whats been your toughest personal challenge? BRANDON CARR: Coming to the Cowboys people told me how it would be as far as the spotlight goes and everything that comes with it but you dont know until youre actually in it. Youve got to be mentally tough in blocking out the negatives and rolling with the positives to keep going. Just stay hungry. UKCF: Have you been to England before? BRANDON CARR: No, this is the first time! Its pretty cool. I heard all the stories, but what Im really interested in is the fashion. Im looking to get all yall fashion tips. Im ready to follow your lead! UKCF: When the London game was announced did you feel excited or do you think it messes up the usual game preparations? BRANDON CARR: Weve got the bye week afterwards so have got our time to recover and get rid of the jet lag. When I heard the news I was ecstatic! My whole house was ecstatic- my wife, my daughter! I dont look at it as a negative. Its a new experience. Footballs evolved and has come a long way. I just feel honoured and blessed to be able to represent the NFL and the Cowboys in London. I just cant imagine what its going to feel like coming to this stadium on game day.
