Check out this program at the Geneseo Public Library on January 25th. Courtship and Weddings in the Lincoln Era The Geneseo Public Library invites the public to a program presented by Erika Holst, historian, author and curator. She will share her research on life in 19th century Springfield in a presentation entitled, “Love’s Young Dream: Courtship and Weddings in the Lincoln Era”. Drawing on period letters, diaries, etiquette manuals, and reminiscences, this illustrated talk will examine the nature of courtship and weddings in Lincoln-era Springfield. Topics include how young people met, the nature of an engagement, and typical features of weddings during the time period. The program will take place on Saturday, January 25 at 2:00 pm and is open to the public free-of-charge. This opportunity is funded by the Illinois Humanities Council Road Scholars program. The library is located at 805 N. Chicago Street in Geneseo.
