Check out what CDT Alixandra Powers was up to this summer! This Summer I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to attend Cadet Troop Leader Training (CTLT) at Fort Polk, LA with the 5th Aviation Brigade. I spent a little over two weeks training with the Bravo Company Gators whos primary mission is to provide air support and OPFOR assets for the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC). I was really lucky to have gotten to attend CTLT in the first place, but what made my experience even more memorable is the opportunity I had to be around officers in the aviation branch. Having recently made the decision to branch aviation and fly MEDEVAC, this opportunity assisted me in understanding what my duties would be as an incoming lieutenant and gave me a greater understanding of what my mission would be as a MEDEVAC pilot. During my time at Fort Polk, I was able to observe several air missions including a downed pilot rescue mission led by Pathfinders from the 101st ABN DIV and assist in the planning and observation of an air raid led by 3rd Group Special Forces out of Fort Bragg. In addition I had a lot of hands on training and got to fly in the OH-58C Kiowa, LUH-72 Lakota, UH-60M Blackhawk, and a CH-47D. The officers and NCOs I worked with were open to answering questions and excited to have a cadet with them who was willing to learn. CTLT is an exciting adventure and I would recommend it to any cadets who are given the chance to go!
