To be religious is to admit the need of relationship with God; for many it is also to admit the absence of relationship with God. So embracing religion without God becomes a deliberately, and often, carefully erected façade to hold out spirituality. It is a counterfeit that may trade among men, but God knows He didnt print it. Religious currency without Gods image is not legal spiritual tender. It cant do any business for you in the real spiritual market. Jesus describes that condition... Mark 7: 6 ...Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. 7 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. 8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.
