Checked into hospital at 5pm today, surgery is now scheduled for - TopicsExpress

Checked into hospital at 5pm today, surgery is now scheduled for 3pm Wednesday. Im having a CT scan tonight to map out the route the ENT surgeons are going to take to my brain through my nose (the pituitary gland is right in the middle of your head, surrounded by bone) using little robotic instruments - its called Endoscopic Transsphenoidal surgery. Everything is the same as the last two times so I know what to expect. Hopefully theyll get a successful culture during the operation this time though so they can figure out which antibiotics will work best and which ones its resistant to. They were unable to the first two times, and its been resistant to all of them so far. The infectious diseases doctor is really confused as to why it has recurred for a 3rd time. It came back after the first surgery because the bacteria was resistant to all three oral antibiotics they had given me. Before I had even finished the insane amount of pills they had prescribed me, it recurred, and I had to have a second surgery. After the second surgery, my NEW Infectious Diseases doctor had me get a picc line (IV from my arm that travelled through a vein into my heart) so I could be administered long-term antibiotics for a month. And a month shouldve been more than long enough, he treated it as if it had spread to the bone surrounding the pituitary (which it mightve). So it definitely SHOULD NOT have come back for a third go. But it did. And nobody knows how. The complications caused by my CAH is probably not helping anything either. Im just too special I guess lol. The good thing though is that I have the best neurosurgeons and ENT surgeons that specialize in pituitary tumors taking care of me. The bad thing is that I have a pituitary abscess, which is different than a tumor and very rare - its basically an infection in my pituitary gland, which is surrounded by bone. The fact that its surrounded by bone is actually keeping it from spreading to the rest of my brain, which is good. My dad has tried tried to find doctors that may have experience in this kind of thing, for a second opinion, but has been unable to, so far. Hopefully my Infectious Diseases doctor can figure out how to make this my last surgery. Ive had a headache for six months total in 2014, and Im ready to stop feeling like crap all the time! I am so ready and excited for this whole ordeal to be done with! Getting better for good is the only Christmas present I want this year. (Just kidding, mom! I need more socks! Haha)
