Checked on bees today. 30 degrees Fahrenheit. Has been in the single digits for a few days. I just lifted one end of telescoping cover to look in. Bees are around the hole in the inner cover with their butts up fanning. I have cleared out a lot of dead bees in the last few weeks. One hive has lots more dead than the others. This is my first year and I hope to get them through the winter. I left them two deeps and a medium to get through. Every time I have checked on them they seem to be in the top even above the inner cover. I have 1 styrofoam and roofing felt over that. Even the top cover has a 1 styrofoam layer under the aluminum cover ( sandwiched between wood and metal). Seems they are never clustering or only do it when its below 20 deg, when I dont check them.
