Checking out the new Beats Music app, a competitor to Spotify. The main differentiator is curated playlists, which Beats does very well. However, what Spotify has is third party apps - Pitchfork, AnyDecentMusic, Rolling Stone and more. In theory Id rather get my playlists from the expert third parties, so I favour Spotifys approach at this point. But Ill test Beats over the next week and see how it compares. One things for sure - its great to have torrid competition in the online music market. Means more and better features for us. Now, if only Last.fm would do something useful with all that data it has, instead of trying to compete with Beats et al with a *YouTube* powered music player (sigh).
