Cheeky Lemony Chicken with Orzo As I was going out and about - TopicsExpress

Cheeky Lemony Chicken with Orzo As I was going out and about with the Lidl stuff this morning I thought Id be a clever girl and put some chicken in the slow cooker for lunch. My massive pack of chicken thighs and drumsticks had been reduced to 69p. Bargain! I didnt have any lemons but had a Jiff so threw the chicken in with the lemon juice and the usual suspects of paprika, chilli and fennel seed. Then I squashed some garlic and put that in but you could use garlic powder. What else? Oh, the spring onions that had become too manky for a salad. Finally, I added a bit of water, sprinkled with salt and left it for 2 1/2 hours. It looked bloody awful when I got back so I popped the chicken pieces in a hot oven to brown. I could have grilled it but I keep forgetting things under the grill and burning them. I poured the juices through a sieve, added a stock cube and poured some orzo (the Italian pasta that looks like rice) into it. If you are using orzo you need to keep scraping the bottom of the pan with a wooden spatula otherwise it will stick. You could use rice instead. I should have done because Joe refused to eat the bloody orzo. Anyway, the rest of us loved it and it fed me, Ged, Grumpy George And Zoe and cost about £1.20 in total. Thats 30p each. If the chicken had been full price it would work out at 75p each.
