Cheerful, talented actress Ruby Bernadette Nanette Fabares (Nanete Fabray) is celebrating her 93rd birthday today! She was born in San Diego to a train conductor father and pushy stage mom, who get her tap dancing with Bill Bojangles Robinson at a very early age. She was 1923s Miss New Years Eve at the Million Dollar theater (Wow!). A graduate of Hollywood High (1939) she studied opera for a short time at Juilliard, but preferred musical theater. Best known film roll was as the Betty Comden playwright character in MGMs The Band Wagon. On TV her mug may be seen in The Carol Burnett Show, Burkes Law, Love, American Style, Love Boat, Whats My Line?, and Murder, She Wrote. Ruby is the aunt of singer/actress Shelley Fabares (singer of such bland hits as Johnny Angel, and actress in such insipid fare as Ride the Wild Surf and The Donna Reed Show).
