Cheers as Owalo fulfils pledge to assist in reconstruction of burnt homes in Kibra --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A Nairobi Management consultant Mr. Eliud Owalo today visited Kibra and offered material support in the form of building materials to victims of the recent fire inferno at Mashimoni, Laini Saba. A fierce fire broke out in the area last week razing several homes to the ground and leaving hundreds of people homeless. Mr. Owalo then made an impromptu visit soon after the disaster accompanied by local ODM leaders and personally promised the residents to help in provision of construction materials. Today, Mr. Owalo braved the early morning downpour in Nairobi and had to wade his way through the muddy alleys to the scene of the fire where he joined cheerful victims to offload the eagerly awaited building materials. Later while addressing the residents, Owalo appealed to them to distribute the materials evenly amongst themselves and reconstruct their structures as a lasting solution is sought to address the frequent fire outbreaks in the area. He castigated the Government for being reactive to disasters and urged them to put in place a comprehensive disaster management strategy that provides sustainable and effective methods of addressing such needless lost of life and property. Owalo stated that it is only through a proactive approach that the country can minimize such tragedies, noting that waiting until disasters take place then attempting to offer solutions is both retrogressive and unsustainable. Present during the ceremony were local leaders led by Ochieng Jera, John Milla, Jeconiah Ogutu, Rose Masita, John Shikokoti, Catherine Okoth, Mala, Kopiyo, Mama Kadudu, amongst other community leaders.
