Chelsea Transfer News: Midfielder To Sign Five-Year Deal | De Rossi On The Move? Mata to sign new deal First up and the Metro are reporting that attacker Juan Mata is set to commit his long-term future to Chelsea by penning a new five-year deal. The Spaniard’s future came under surprise scrutiny when Jose Mourinho returned as boss with some reports suggesting he wasn’t part of the Portuguese coach’s first team plans and there were even reports claiming he had been offered as a make-weight in a deal to try and sign Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney. However, the Blues were quick to dismiss those reports and it seems the Europa League winners are now ready to show how much Mata means to the club by tying him down to a new deal with the Metro claiming the 25-year-old playmaker will sign a new five-year contract that will see his weekly wage increase from £70,000 to £100,000. The news will come as a welcome relief to Chelsea fans who have taken a huge liking to Mata since his arrival from Valencia two years ago, with the clubs supporters naming him their Player of the Year two years in a row. De Rossi on the move? Next up and the Express are reporting that Chelsea target Daniel De Rossi could be sold this summer as Roma look to try and balance the books to ease their financial woes. Reports earlier in the month claimed the Blues were close to signing the Italian veteran for around £11m but a deal appear to stall and talk of a move has quietened down in recent days. However, the Express claim a move could now be back on with Roma understood to be keen to get De Rossi’s reported £5.6m salary off the books as they continue to struggle financially. The newspaper suggests that De Rossi – who turns 30 on Wednesday – is due to hold crunch talks with director general Mauro Baldissoni and Walter Sabatini this week and it’s expected he could be told he’s free to leave this summer if an acceptable bid comes in, but Chelsea will have to battle Real Madrid and Man City for his signature. Jose Mourinho is believed to be a huge fan of the combative midfielders and should De Rossi leave, it would bring to an end a 12 year stay at Roma where he’s racked up over 400 appearances. ~Paul~
