Chelsea and Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has posted a video message thanking Atletico Madrid for the last three years of his career, as he finally returns to Stamford Bridge. Courtois, 22, signed for Chelsea in 2011 but was immediately loaned out to Atletico Madrid where he spent the next three years and became one of the best goalkeepers in the world. Now, he has returned to Stamford Bridge, where Jose Mourinho will see Courtois and Petr Cech go head- to-head for Chelsea’s number- one spot in the first-team. Courtois is rated as the best young goalkeeper in the world and could see his stock rise even higher should his development continue this season at Stamford Bridge. After three emotional years with Atleti ended with the La Liga title and a Champions League final, Courtois has sent a message back to the club, staff and supporters thanking them for the time he spent at the club. “It was wonderful to play for Atlético. I’ve experienced some fantastic moments and I’ve won lots of titles. Atléti will always be in my heart,” Courtois said. “Thank you for all of the trust you have shown in me by making me part of this squad. “I also want to say a special thanks to the entire squad; to the teammates I’ve been with for these three years. I’m proud to have spent the last three years with them. We’ve been part of a group that has experienced some wonderful times. The truth is that it was fantastic and you will always be in my heart.” DONE READING? DON’T LEAVE JUST YET, WE’VE GOT THIS CRACKING STAT FOR YOU Courtois kept 20 clean sheets in La Liga last season.
