Chelsea planning a massive £25m outlay to close problem midfield area. Chelsea are well on their way to becoming one of the most well rounded squads with plenty of young developing talent in their ranks, but the defensive midfield area is still a big headache for Jose Mourinho. The ‘Special One’ has so far used Lampard, Ramires and Mikel in the holding midfield role with Mikel coming the closest to being a true defensive midfielder. A lot was expected of the young and upcoming Van Ginkel, but the Dutchman suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury which will keep out of action for almost the whole of the season. Therefore it is no surprise that Chelsea are planning a massive £25m bid for Marseille’s Gianelli Imbula, according to reports in the Evening Standard. The French Under 21 international has earned comparisons with former Chelsea player Claude Makelele for his playing style and also impressed the Blues senior scout Guy Hillion. Hillion said: I have seen Imbula often. As soon as he gets the ball he is able to accelerate and break through the lines. He covers well, has good technique, great vision of the game, with a very good quality pass and a great left foot. Imbula was last season’s Ligue 2 player of the season with Guingamp and signed for Marseille only this summer. But he has apparently done enough to impress Mourinho and his staff to climb high upon his transfer wish list.
