Chelsea were the weekends big winners as they comfortably - TopicsExpress

Chelsea were the weekends big winners as they comfortably dispatched Swansea 5-0, then saw title rivals Manchester City slip to defeat against Arsenal. Southampton continued their excellent run away from home as they beat Newcastle, while Manchester United kept up the pressure on Ronald Koemans side with a win at QPR. Meanwhile, Burnley let slip a two-goal lead for the second straight match as Alan Pardews Crystal Palace came back to win 3-2, and there was little to cheer for the other sides at the bottom of the table as Leicester suffered a narrow defeat to Stoke and Hull were well beaten by West Ham. Take a look at my team of the week and see if you agree with my choices. GOALKEEPER - David de Gea (Manchester United) ------ David de Gea has not conceded more than one goal in any of his last 14 Premier League appearances, keeping five clean sheets in the process He produced two magnificent saves from Charlie Austin. De Geas performance against QPR not only added to Harry Redknapps woes but also elicited rare public commendation from his manager Louis van Gaal. The keeper was outstanding, said the Dutchman, and has been for most of the season. High praise indeed from a man who normally doesnt lavish his players with compliments. DEFENDER - Antonio Valencia (Manchester United) Antonio Valencia provided his first assist away from home in the league since December 2013 DEFENDER - Jan Vertonghen (Tottenham) Jan Vertonghen scored his first Premier League goal since March 2013 against Swansea City DEFENDER - Per Mertesacker (Arsenal) Per Mertesacker (right) kept his first clean sheet in a Premier League game against Man City this weekend. Arsenal had conceded at least once in each of his previous six games against the Citizens (13 goals) DEFENDER - Filipe Luis (Chelsea) Filipe Luis has helped Chelsea keep a clean sheet in three of his last Premier League appearances for the Blues MIDFIELDER - Jason Puncheon (Crystal Palace) Jason Puncheon has more assists this season (4 in 21 games) than in his previous four seasons combined (3 in 79 games) MIDFIELDER - Oscar (Chelsea) Oscar has scored three and assisted five in his last nine Premier League appearances MIDFIELDER - Christian Eriksen (Tottenham) Christian Eriksen has won more points with his goals than any other Premier League player this season (13) MIDFIELDER - Santi Cazorla (Arsenal) Santi Cazorla (left) has scored five goals in his last eight Premier League games, after failing to find the net in his preceding 27 appearances STRIKER - Radamel Falcao (Manchester United) Radamel Falcao managed a game-high three shots on target against QPR - the most he has had in a Premier League match so far I dont know what Louis van Gaal said to Falcao last week, having left the Colombian out of the game against Southampton, but based on what I saw against QPR at Loftus Road Manchester United must keep this striker at the club. His work rate was phenomenal and it was only Robert Green who denied the player a hat-trick. STRIKER - Diego Costa (Chelsea) Diego Costa (left) has been directly involved in 19 Premier League goals this term; no player has been involved in more (17 goals and two assists)
