Chelsea wonderkid and Chilean youngster Christain Cuevas has become Chelsea’s fourth signing of the summer. Cuevas the 18-year-old Chilean Under-20 international, who joined Chelsea on a five-year deal from O’Higgins, having agreed the move in February of this year. Primarily a left-back, he can also play as a left-winger. He made his first-team debut for his former side in May 2011, having risen through the youth ranks. Cuevas is almost certainly being viewed asthe long-term replacement for Ashley Cole, whose contract expires next summer. But Chelsea also has a lot of faith in 23-year-old Ryan Bertrand, who started the Champions League final under Roberto Di Matteo last year. In all probability, Cuevas will be loaned out this season to get first team experience somewhere in Europe, with Bertrand still acting as back-up to Cole. But when the time is right and if he develops as hoped, Cuevas could challenge Bertrand for the left-back spot at StamfordBridge. (Metro)
