Chemical Engineers inaugurate fund for young entrepreneurs The Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers’ Foundation has inaugurated a special fund to enhance the entrepreneurial capacity of young chemical engineers. The initiative, tagged the NSChEF Angel Fund Initiative, has initial seed money of N38m to cater for the establishment of an entrepreneurial incubation centre. The NSChEF President, Afolabi Oladele, who announced this on Friday in Lagos, said the programme would commence on January 5, 2015. According to him, the centre will be a platform to develop ideas presented by young chemical engineering graduates into sustainable business ventures that can lead to the generation of massive employment opportunities. He said, “The targets are fresh graduates with business ideas that can be turned into operating companies capable of generating employment with initial focus on the following sectors: agro-processing, IT applications, and oil and gas processing.” Oladele added that the incubator centre would be equipped with IT devices and office facility, where the beneficiaries, would work with their mentors to develop their businesses from the scratch. He noted all young chemical engineering graduates with business ideas could apply and be ready to defend their ideas during the screening process. The Chief Executive Officer of the Omatek Ventures Computer Plc., Florence Seriki, who chaired the event, commended the society for taking steps toward solving the employment challenges among young engineering graduates.
