Chemistry, teamwork develop for Gilas in Lithuania training camp by Rey Joble, InterAKTV · Friday, June 14, 2013 · 4:55 pm The Philippine national men’s basketball team is already beginning to reap dividends of its training trip to Lithuania. Apart from developing their teamwork on the basketball floor, members of the SMART-Gilas Pilipinas national squad are also developing chemistry off the court that should serve them well come the FIBA Asia Championship in August. “We’re seeing improvement in our ability to work together,” Gilas coach Chot Reyes told InterAKTV in a text message. “There’s a lot of upside in this team. What is it exactly, only time will tell.” Team manager Butch Antonio has been witness to how the squad has grown closer during the short trip. “The players are getting to know more about one another. They are building strong bonds,” said Antonio. Away from home, the players have no place to go and are forced to hang out with each other. That has led to some playful moments caught in Instagram photos posted by members of the team. But when it comes to training and tuneup games, the players go back to business. Most recently, Gilas booked two victories over Lithuania’s tall 20-under squad. “The new players are getting more familiar with FIBA play. Coach Chot uses different combinations during our games and each time, different players shine,” added Antonio. ADMIN[IAN]
