Chengdu-Europe express rail freight service to start two-way operation The 9,826-kilometre international direct rail freight service from Chengdu to Lodz, Poland, the fastest train service from China to Europe, is about to start two-way operation this month, reports Xinhua. The Chengdu-Europe express rail one-way service opened for traffic on April 26, from Chengdus Qingbaijiang Container Centre, crossing into Kazakhstand at Alataw Pass and on to Russia and Belarus before arriving at Lodz, Polands third city. The journey takes 12 to 14 days at present and then the shipments can be distributed to any parts of Europe within one to three days. According to Chengdu Logistics Office director Chen Zhongwei, the service has moved a total of 1,886 TEU as of now with 23 operations running. Mr Chen also said that Chengdu-Europe express was not a new railway, but an combined existing tracks. Customs clearance efficiency has been greatly enhanced by applying the three once new customs clearance mode of one declaration, one inspection and one clearance. Lodz provincial governor said Chengdu has large development potential and he has great confidence in the prospects of the freight service. At present, Chengdu-made products such as laptops, womens shoes, auto parts and sporting goods are shipped to Poland through the service. Once the two-way service operation started, European autos are expected to be imported to Sichuan by the end of the month.
