Cheriton 2nds 1 - 4 Hemyock Cheriton suffered an embarrassing defeat in an important game following another limp second half showing. The first half was a quiet affair, but we dominated the ball without ever really coming out of 3rd gear. We took the lead through Cory Knowles, who smashed in a long range volley which was too hot for the keeper to handle. The second half started badly as we conceded a very similar goal to last weeks against South Zeal. A free kick was clipped in and the Hemyock players were queueing up for the free header. We went straight up the other end and Mark Colville hit the underside of the bar from a one on one. I cant actually remember their second goal, but I think it was some sort of error by us gifting them the chance. The third goal was a balls up between me and Phil, as my back-header went too high and clipped off the keeper for their striker to tap into the empty net. Hemyock quickly struck their fourth when Dave Atkinson won a strong header from a corner but the second ball was lashed into the roof of the net. We rallied late on and Cory forced a save and then hit the post, with Mark also shooting narrowly wide, but the damage had been done with another poor 2nd half performance. Our passing game never got going and we badly missed the calm passing of Chris Martin and the hold up play of Dan Hoyland (you can slip me the tenners on Wednesday boys). It has to be said we gifted Hemyock goals through our mistakes, and they now have a bit of a lead on us despite not playing particularly well. The only two positives are the full returns from injury of Cory Knowles and Alexander Partridge, who got MOTM for an impressively committed and composed performance. Next game is away to South Zeal. Well done to the 1sts for their draw at Exmouth!
