Chetan Bhagat - The Positives Not that I like his books, but following are a few reasons why we owe him a big thumbs up. 1. He brought out the writer in a lot of people. His success inspired several people to look at writing as a career option. Expanding ones career opportunities, whether as a full time writer or a part-time one, is a very good result of his emergence as a best-selling writer. 2. He made people read. His books were priced below the century mark, and the language used was easy as a breeze. While he may not have helped people become experts, those who were not fluent readers at least developed some sort of familiarity with the English text. 3. He showed how a supposedly artsy product can be converted into a commercially viable one. He helped develop the IIT/ IIM genre of books, and while we can always question their quality, the commercial success of his books and the books written by others like him is very real.
