Resumes can be sent directly to [email protected] CLASS TITLE: Dance Teacher CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: Under the supervision of the school principal, the arts teacher (dance, music, drama/theatre, or visual art) assumes professional responsibility for providing sequential and comprehensive arts learning experiences and supervision of students in a supportive and positive climate that develops creative and critically thinking students in the areas of arts-making, arts literacy, interpretation and evaluation, making connections, and to meet and exceed content specific Illinois State Goals. Arts teachers will use the Chicago Guide for Teaching and Learning in the Arts (scope and sequence) to design a robust and comprehensive arts program that challenges all students at an appropriate level. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF ALL ARTS TEACHERS: Responsible for planning and delivering arts education instruction, including but not limited to: developing standards-based curriculum and student assessment to include diverse learners and to cover various students artistic levels, abilities, ethnicities and genders; structuring lessons to ensure maximum student participation (e.g., individual, partner, and small-group activities); exposing students to a wide variety of multi-cultural activities; planning and administering student assessments that are objective and varied; planning and communicating comprehensive and transparent grading criteria; organizing space, equipment, and students to maximize student engagement time in arts-making; establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment; evaluating academic and social growth of students, preparing report cards, and keeping records, including attendance reports, checklists, and keeping records; consulting with school staff in implementing arts integration in the school. · ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF A DANCE TEACHER: In addition to the above, dance teachers are responsible for: understanding, explaining, and utilizing dance vocabulary correctly in demonstration of various dance techniques such as ballet, modern/contemporary, jazz, tap, ballroom, and cultural/folk dance; directing dance recitals and performances to include managing rehearsals, parent/guardian volunteers, and communications with the community; incorporating warm-ups, across the floor, conditioning, and combinations into lessons; choreographing and composing dances; encouraging student creativity; increasing student learning across the curriculum through collaboration and integration of dance concepts into academic subjects. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: Successful completions of all teaching requirements as well as all course work required to obtain the appropriate teaching certificate(s) and/or endorsements issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
