Chichicastenango Markets is one of many highlights of Guatemala. Nestled in the highlands, it is one hour and thirty minutes drive from Antigua. The markets or Chichi as locals know the country town have been there since different Maya communities have been trading their produce, services and fabulous textiles there. Held on Thursdays and Sundays in the morning, it is a must to see, smell and breathe all along. The drive is an experience in itself. We go through little villages where locals are waking up and smiling school kids walking to school in narrow roads. Once in the Market’s maze, you walk along many blocks packed with colourful bags, tapestries, sashes and shoes. You can also admire all what you can imagine made of silk, cotton, wool, leather, paper and sisal. When you reach the steps of Chichicastenango Church, the steps are covered in flowers for sale. It is a delight for the senses that can be experienced in our next escorted tour to Latin America departing in May 2015. Have a look at our web site for more information latinamericagrouptours
