Chicken-pickin week is finally upon us! Its time for the Clemson Tigers to reassert what has been for most of the 110 game rivalry with the University of South Carolina Gamecocks a foregone conclusion (Clemson leads all-time record 65-41-4). That record is all the more impressive considering all the games were played in Columbia as part of the SC State Fair (Big Thursday they called it) until 1959. Clemsons first home game in the series came in 1960, and the two programs have alternated home-and-home ever since. Clemson holds a 48-31-3 record in Willliams-Brice Stadium (hereafter affectionately referred to as Billy Brice). In short, Clemson has, and will again, own Billy Brice. The current four game winning streak by the Gamecocks is just the second of its kind ever (the other 1951-54). Rent is overdue. GO TIGERS! Choosing which Tiger wins to highlight in this rivalry is like choosing your favorite child; its near-impossible and probably shouldnt even be attempted--theyre all great in their own unique way. Since the game this year takes place 132 miles down I-26 in Columbia, well focus on Tiger wins in the worlds largest dead cockroach--Billy Brice. 2003 witnessed a monumental 63-17 drubbing of the South Carolina Gamecocks by the Clemson Tigers. Sophomore QB Charlie Whitehurst tossed 4 td passes en route to 302 yards passing. Senior RB Chad Jasmin added four touchdown runs, and a late td run by backup QB Chansi Stuckey pushed the Tigers to their highest point total in the then 101-game series. Clemson racked up 302 yards through the air and another 240 on the ground to total 542 on the night. Clemson finished the season with a Peach Bowl victory over #6 Tennessee 27-14, a 9-4 record and #22 final ranking. South Carolina finished the year 5-7 and unranked. youtube/watch?v=4UDVtHY70h8
